Openreach fun

Hi guys,

Appreciate this isn't a forum for consumers, but, I'm definitely not at the level to be a prosumer yet (someday perhaps). So I hope this is okay to post.

I've spent since 31st March chasing Openreach to get our address updated on their system, after our landlord decided to register all the utilities with a temporary development address rather than the actual address. Fun. We moved in on the 15th April and it's a poor signal area for most networks so mobile broadband has been a PITA. Openreach repeatedly telling me the address is correct for most of that time. Alongside ISPs who kept telling me it might take a few days or a few months to update. Fun.

But, I finally got the address updated only to find ISPs (like Cuckoo) saying there's a 21-day wait for activation... due to Openreach. And there's no way to fast track that, either by Openreach or the ISP! But, new connections are typically completed in 7-14 days, because this is apparently an active line (despite being brand new), it takes longer?

I stumbled on Olilo via a Reddit thread – signed up earlier, and now for something quicker than 21-days!

First of all - what an absolute saga. Honestly, the Openreach address thing is one of those situations that sounds simple on paper but turns into a whole thing really fast, so massive respect for sticking with it this long.

One day you will become a prosumern I am sure of that!

The 21-day wait you're seeing with other ISPs is unfortunately a real quirk of how Openreach handles "active" lines vs new connections - it's a bit backwards, we know. We'll do everything we can on our end to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Can confirm, back online courtesy of Olilo – they got me back on within 3 working days, a vast improvement (and relief) on the 21 days being offered by other ISPs!
